
KAREN PURCELL, Soprano has been touted by the Miami Herald as having an
"electrifying
voice." The Palm Beach Post wrote that her "voice is gorgeous." She
is a dramatic soprano
with an extraordinarily flexible voice which lends itself both to the delicacy of Mozart
and the demands of Wagner.
She has performed a variety of roles all over the world,
including Donna Elvira and Donna Anna in Europe; Tosca, Mimi, Rosalinda, Countess,
and Fiordiligi in the United States.
Her concert appearances include Venezuela,
Australia, Canada, as well as Europe and the United States.
Some of her credits
include performances with the Boston Opera Company with Sarah Caidwell, the Boston
Pops with Arthur Fiedler, the Santa Fe Opera Company, the Spoleto Festival, the Diisseldorf
Opera Company, and the Miami Philharmonic Orchestra.
She has also worked with such
notable conductors as Herbert von Karajan, Gunther Schuller, Christopher Keene, and
Alain Lombard.
She has won a number of prestigious awards and competitions, including
the Metropolitan Opera Regional Competition, the Palm Beach Opera Competition, and
Opera America. Miss Purcell has also won a Fulbright-Hayes Grant as well as several
other grants and scholarships.
